Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate clinical laboratory testing across microbiology, chemistry, hematology, serology, blood bank, parasitology and urinalysis
• Confirm, verify, correlate and interpret results using in-depth knowledge of techniques, instruments and physiology
• Maintain laboratory logs, binders and records in accordance with governing agency requirements
• Evaluate specimen adequacy and request recollection when necessary to protect patient safety
• Order rechecks and exercise clinical judgment on questionable results to ensure quality patient care
• Provide technical guidance and hands-on instruction to students, interns, residents and laboratory staff
• Participate in quality assurance activities, policy reviews and special projects that improve lab operations
• Support hospital committees and contribute to department initiatives that advance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited medical laboratory science program
• Required certification: MLS (ASCP), AMT, AAB, or equivalent certification
• Prefer at least one year of clinical/hospital laboratory experience
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (frequently lift/carry up to 25 lbs) and perform hands-on lab tasks
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with clinical teams
• Color vision sufficient to identify and match reagents and results

Education

• Graduate of an accredited medical laboratory science program

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on experience with clinical laboratory testing and laboratory instrumentation
• Expertise in microbiology, chemistry, hematology, serology and blood bank procedures
• Proficiency in specimen handling, processing and documentation
• Result interpretation, verification and troubleshooting for accurate reporting
• Quality assurance practices and familiarity with regulatory documentation
• Ability to train and mentor others while maintaining a calm, solution-focused approach
