Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and treat patients with respiratory conditions using evidence-based interventions
• Manage ventilators and respiratory support devices, adjusting settings per physician orders
• Perform respiratory procedures such as airway management and arterial blood gas sampling
• Collaborate closely with nurses, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families on respiratory care, home therapies, and equipment use
• Accurately document assessments, treatments, and patient responses in the medical record
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain safe, compliant practice

Qualifications

• Licensed or eligible for Louisiana Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure
• Certified Respiratory Therapist credentials (RRT or CRT) preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS and PALS preferred where applicable
• Clinical experience in an acute care or hospital setting preferred
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and respond to urgent clinical needs

Education

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program
• Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or related field is a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Ventilator management and titration
• Airway management and oxygen therapy modalities
• Arterial blood gas interpretation and respiratory assessment
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Infection control practices and patient safety principles
• Teamwork, critical thinking, and the ability to prioritize in fast-paced settings
