Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality respiratory care and therapies for patients in an acute care setting
• Manage mechanical ventilation, monitor patient response, and adjust treatments under protocol
• Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and interpret results to guide therapy
• Deliver airway management, oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and chest physiotherapy
• Document treatments, assessments, and changes in patient condition accurately in the medical record
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the interdisciplinary team to develop and adjust care plans
• Educate patients and families on respiratory care techniques and equipment use

Qualifications

• Licensed Respiratory Therapist in Louisiana or ability to obtain state licensure
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or equivalent credential preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS and PALS preferred or willing to obtain
• Previous acute care or hospital respiratory experience preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to work independently
• Clear communication skills and a team-focused attitude

Education

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Experienced with mechanical ventilators and ventilator management
• Proficient in arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis and interpretation
• Skilled in oxygen delivery systems, airway management, and respiratory diagnostics
• Comfortable with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Able to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment and remain calm under pressure
