Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess patients promptly and thoroughly, recognizing changes in condition and responses to treatment
- Coordinate care with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team to create safe hospital and post-discharge plans
- Provide clear, compassionate patient and family education using proven teaching/learning principles
- Perform and document electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) and intervene appropriately
- Identify unit, staff, and patient care concerns and take timely action or escalate to the right resources
- Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure coordinated patient activities and continuity of care
- Support quality improvement and patient safety efforts through accurate documentation and communication
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland (Compact allowed) — license must be active at time of submission
- Minimum 24 months of recent Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience
- Current American Heart Association ACLS and BLS certifications (required)
- Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification (required)
- Active Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (required)
- Active NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (required)
- AWHONN certification (listed as required)
- COVID-19 vaccination required (declinations not accepted)
- Submission items: resume, GBMC cover page (or one will be provided), skills checklist specific to L&D, and supervisory references as requested
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in patient assessment and recognizing subtle changes in maternal/newborn status
- Proven ability in care coordination and post-discharge planning
- Strong patient and family teaching skills and comfort with sensitive conversations
- Experience identifying and resolving unit and patient care problems
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and specialty services
- Competent in use of EFM and neonatal resuscitation protocols
