Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and diagnostic evaluations for patients in a psychiatric program
- Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that align with patient goals
- Provide individual, group, and family therapy using best-practice therapeutic modalities
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary treatment teams to coordinate care and improve outcomes
- Perform timely crisis assessment and intervention when patients present with acute needs
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and progress notes in the electronic health record
- Participate in case consultations, staff meetings, and training to support continuous improvement
- Advocate for patient needs and contribute to a therapeutic, recovery-focused environment
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD or PsyD) preferred; master’s-level clinicians with appropriate credentialing may be considered depending on facility requirements
- Active or eligible for state licensure in California as a Psychologist (or equivalent credential per facility policy)
- Experience providing psychotherapy and conducting psychological assessments in a mental health or forensic/psychiatric setting
- Strong clinical documentation skills and familiarity with electronic medical records
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Current CPR/Basic Life Support certification preferred or able to obtain
- Background check and any required facility-specific clearances completed prior to start
Education
- Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD or PsyD) preferred; master's degree acceptable where permitted by facility
- State licensure or eligibility for licensure required per facility policy
Knowledge & Skills
- Thorough knowledge of diagnostic assessment, treatment planning, and evidence-based psychotherapy
- Skilled in risk assessment, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques
- Comfortable working with serious mental illness and behavioral health populations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and staff
- Cultural competence and sensitivity when working with diverse populations
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage caseloads and documentation deadlines
