Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess patients quickly and accurately to prioritize safe, effective care
- Administer medications and treatments with attention to detail and safety
- Monitor patient status and intervene or escalate concerns as needed
- Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams to support continuity and outcomes
- Document patient care and changes clearly in the chart to ensure seamless handoffs
- Provide patient and family education with compassion and clarity
- Advocate for patients’ needs while supporting facility standards and protocols
- Support unit workflow during admissions, discharges, and transfers
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) — current active license (ability to obtain Maine licensure or valid compact license)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS and other certifications a plus
- Experience in acute care or relevant clinical setting preferred
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and medication administration skills
- Ability to adapt quickly to new teams, electronic health records, and facility protocols
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of nursing fundamentals, patient assessment, and clinical documentation
- Comfort with IV therapy, medication administration, and common inpatient procedures
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate charting practices
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to partner with clinicians and families
- Time management and prioritization to handle a busy patient load safely
