Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care for PCU patients, using clinical judgment to assess and address changing conditions
• Perform acute care procedures such as IV starts, central venous line care, arterial line monitoring, and Foley catheter management
• Monitor cardiac status and EKGs closely and respond promptly to abnormalities
• Deliver wound care and manage wound vac devices with attention to infection prevention and healing
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary Team-Based Care model—participate in daily rounds with physicians, pharmacists, case management, and therapy
• Use Cerner EMR, Pyxis, and IV pump systems accurately for documentation and medication administration
• Support safe patient mobilization using lift equipment and SCDs, and mentor peers on best practices
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team to plan and execute safe discharges

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure as required for practice (per state regulations)
• BLS required prior to or during orientation
• ACLS required (to be completed prior to end of orientation)
• Experience with IV starts, arterial lines, CVL care, and EKG monitoring
• Preferred: ICU/Stepdown experience or at least 1 year of med/surg experience
• Comfort with Cerner EMR, IV pumps, Pyxis, wound vac and common acute care devices
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and participate in weekend rotations

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical records
• Familiarity with IV pumps, Baxter feeding pumps, and Pyxis systems
• Skill in EKG monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms
• Wound care and wound vac management
• Competence with SCDs, lift equipment, and safe patient handling
• Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, and time management skills
• Team-Based Care collaboration and interdisciplinary communication
