Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality perioperative and postoperative nursing care for orthopedic surgery patients
• Assess patient status, monitor vital signs, and respond promptly to changes in condition
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately per provider orders
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthetists, therapists and the interdisciplinary team to optimize outcomes
• Educate patients and families on postoperative care, mobility, pain management, and discharge instructions
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress clearly and timely in the electronic chart
• Participate in unit quality improvement initiatives and support best-practice protocols

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse credential (RN) — active licensure required (North Carolina license or compact status recommended)
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience (orthopedic surgery or surgical floor experience preferred)
• BLS certification required; ACLS or other specialty certifications a plus depending on unit requirements
• Strong clinical assessment skills and comfort working in a fast-paced surgical environment
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical knowledge of orthopedic surgical care, postoperative protocols, and mobility needs
• Wound care, pain management, and post-op complication recognition
• Proficient documentation in electronic health records and accurate charting practices
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and stay calm under pressure
• Patient- and family-centered approach with strong teaching skills
