Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for imaging exams, explain procedures clearly, and answer patient questions with empathy
- Perform diagnostic radiographic procedures (CR/DR/Fluoroscopy) as ordered by physicians with accuracy and safety
- Position patients correctly and determine proper techniques to capture diagnostic-quality images
- Operate and troubleshoot radiology equipment, including CR readers, DR and Fluoro rooms, and portable units
- Transfer and manage images in PACS, scan/route documents, and manage image release/priority (STAT/URGENT) workflows
- Assist radiologists and fluoroscopy techs during special procedures, maintaining sterile technique when required
- Prepare, administer, and document IV and oral contrast media and follow protocols for contrast reactions
- Maintain clear, accurate documentation of patient history, imaging limitations, study details and technologist initials
- Provide excellent customer service — greet patients warmly and coordinate with clinical teams for scheduling/orders
- Perform clerical duties during off shifts, assist with CD burning/image transfer, and support quality assurance tasks
Qualifications
- ARRT registration in Radiology (registered with the ARRT) — required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification meeting American Heart Association standards
- Completion of an ARRT-approved Radiologic Technology training program
- One year of hospital/clinic radiology experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to operate CR, DR and Fluoroscopy equipment safely and efficiently
- Competency in IV contrast preparation and administration with knowledge of reaction protocols
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to lift/move patients and portable equipment and to work evenings and scheduled weekends
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a Radiologic Technology program approved by ARRT
Knowledge & Skills
- Radiographic imaging techniques and proper radiographic positioning
- Operation of Computed Radiography (CR), Digital Radiography (DR) and Fluoroscopy systems
- PACS image management, image transfer and CD burning workflows
- Radiation safety principles (ALARA) and safe patient handling/body mechanics
- Medical terminology, anatomy & physiology relevant to imaging
- Equipment troubleshooting and basic adjustments
- Portable radiography and sterile technique for OR and procedure support
- Patient communication, customer service and clerical/office tasks
