Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality perioperative and postoperative nursing care for cardiovascular surgery patients
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to ensure safe, efficient patient flow
• Monitor hemodynamics and use advanced monitoring tools to detect changes early
• Perform sterile technique and assist with intraoperative procedures and instrumentation
• Educate patients and families on procedure expectations, recovery plans, and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and communicate critical information during handoffs
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of patient safety

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of Texas (or compact RN eligible) — required
• Minimum 1 year of experience in cardiovascular surgery or relevant perioperative cardiac care (as noted)
• BLS required; ACLS strongly preferred
• Current certifications relevant to cardiac/OR nursing (e.g., CNOR) are a plus
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills
• Ability to pass hospital credentialing and background checks

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and common surgical procedures
• Proficiency with hemodynamic monitoring, central lines, chest tubes, and intraoperative support
• Familiarity with sterile technique and OR protocols
• Competent in EKG rhythm recognition and basic arrhythmia management
• Focused, calm decision-making in fast-paced surgical environments
• Excellent bedside manner and patient/family education skills
