Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality post-anesthesia care to patients in the PACU, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia
• Monitor and manage ventilators and advanced airway needs with attention and expertise
• Perform thorough patient assessments and document care accurately in Cerner
• Use the NIH Stroke Scale and respond promptly to neurological changes and other acute events
• Collaborate closely with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and unit staff to coordinate seamless patient care
• Maintain patient safety and comfort with focused pain management, monitoring, and patient education
• Support unit operations including float assignments to Endoscopy/PreOp/Phase II as needed
• Participate in on-call coverage and team communication to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of practice (or eligibility per travel assignment requirements)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant clinical nursing experience (as stated in posting)
• Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications (required)
• Practical experience with NIH Stroke Scale (required)
• Demonstrated ventilator monitoring skills and comfort with advanced respiratory care
• Experience with Cerner or similar electronic health record systems
• Trauma and pediatric experience preferred and strongly considered a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid PACU care knowledge including post-op assessment and recovery protocols
• Proficiency in ventilator monitoring and management
• Familiarity with Cerner documentation and electronic charting best practices
• Comfort performing NIH Stroke Scale assessments and recognizing acute neuro changes
• Strong clinical judgment, situational awareness, and ability to prioritize in a busy unit
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with perioperative teams
• Ability to adapt to floating within peri-anesthesia areas and varying patient populations
