Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor hemodynamically stable and predictably unstable patients on the medical/surgical unit
- Operate and manage advanced medical equipment, including ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, and multiple IV pumps
- Interpret telemetry and EKG data to identify changes in patient status and escalate care appropriately
- Provide compassionate physical, emotional, spiritual and cultural support from admission through discharge
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated care and achieve patient-centered outcomes
- Act as a clinical leader and preceptor, guiding RNs, LPNs, CNAs and support staff
- Participate in discharge planning to ensure safe transitions and continuity of care
Qualifications
- Current Montana RN licensure (required)
- BLS certification (required)
- ACLS and PALS certification required or to be obtained within 6 months of hire
- Experience practicing in an advanced medical/surgical unit with recent Progressive Care or Critical Care nursing experience (required)
- EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred
- Comfort with operating advanced equipment and managing invasive lines, chest tubes, and short-term ventilatory support
Education
- Degree from a Nursing Program
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and advanced nursing principles
- Clinical leadership and precepting skills
- Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
- Management of central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, NG tubes, and continuous bladder irrigation
- Proficiency with multiple IVs and IV pumps
- Experience caring for post-PCI, pacemaker, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, sepsis and various surgical patients
- Team collaboration and effective communication with multidisciplinary teams
