Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate labor and delivery nursing care for mothers and newborns
• Continuously monitor and interpret fetal heart tracings and act decisively when needed
• Circulate and assist in C-sections in the OR, maintaining sterile technique and patient safety
• Manage epidural care and IV drips (including magnesium) with vigilance and expertise
• Document care accurately and efficiently using Meditech and CPN systems
• Triage OB patients and prioritize care in a fast-paced environment
• Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists and the interdisciplinary team to optimize outcomes
• Respond to high-acuity situations calmly and lead or assist during emergencies

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to practice in VA or compact state as required)
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
• Current BLS, ACLS and NRP certifications
• AWOHHN Fetal Heart Rate Intermediate certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Experience with Meditech/CPN documentation
• OR scrub/circulating experience and C-section assistance highly desirable
• Comfort with high-acuity L&D cases, epidural management and IV magnesium drips
• Ability to float within the women’s & children’s service line as needed

Knowledge & Skills

• Fetal heart monitoring and interpretation
• C-section circulation and intraoperative assistance
• Epidural management and familiarity with spinals
• Meditech and CPN electronic documentation
• High-acuity maternal-newborn care and rapid assessment
• OB triage and prioritization in a busy unit
• IV medication management including magnesium drips
• Team communication, delegation and crisis resource management
