Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality stepdown nursing care during evening and night hours, monitoring patients closely and intervening as needed
• Perform continuous cardiac/telemetry monitoring and interpret rhythms to detect and escalate critical changes
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, following established protocols and pharmacology best practices
• Conduct thorough patient assessments, document findings clearly, and update interdisciplinary teams for coordinated care
• Execute stroke assessments (NIHSS) and other specialty evaluations as needed to support rapid clinical decisions
• Participate in skills checks, competency exams, and unit-specific training to maintain excellence in bedside care
• Educate patients and families with compassion about conditions, treatments, and discharge plans
• Support safe transitions of care by coordinating with physicians, case management, and ancillary services

Qualifications

• Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license with Nursys verification
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• NIHSS certification and DCI/BVP (as required by unit) — current and ready to show
• Experience or comfort working in a stepdown/telemetry environment (night shift experience a plus)
• Completion of required health screenings and immunizations per facility policy (COVID-19 vaccine, TB, titers, etc.)
• Willingness to complete required skills testing and competency exams prior to or during assignment

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong telemetry and cardiac rhythm recognition skills
• Solid understanding of stepdown-level clinical interventions and monitoring
• Proficiency in acute patient assessment and rapid clinical decision-making
• Medication administration knowledge, including IV meds and titrations
• Familiarity with stroke assessment (NIHSS) and acute stroke protocols
• Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate care across disciplines
• Attention to detail for documentation, safety checks, and competency requirements
