Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the Occupational Therapy department with clinical vision and compassionate leadership
- Provide direct patient evaluation and treatment (approximately 80% clinical time), delivering high-quality, patient-centered care
- Supervise and mentor certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and Rehabilitation Technicians to maintain clinical excellence
- Coordinate and manage clinical education, competency assessments, and onboarding to elevate team skills
- Ensure compliance with state practice acts, regulatory requirements, and facility policies
- Maintain and oversee the OT policy and procedure manual, including evaluation/treatment standards, documentation, and discharge planning
- Contribute to program development and administrative initiatives (about 20% administrative time)
- Foster a collaborative environment that promotes best practices and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Graduate of an Occupational Therapy program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) — required
- Current California Occupational Therapy license (Board of Medical Quality Assurance) — required
- Possess additional qualifications as recommended by the CA Therapy Board and Rehabilitation Services Department — required
- Member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) — preferred
- Strong supervisory and clinical leadership experience (supervision of COTAs and techs preferred)
- Excellent documentation, regulatory knowledge, and policy development skills
Education
- Graduate of an AOTA-approved Occupational Therapy program (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in patient evaluation and individualized treatment planning
- Clinical oversight and supervision of rehabilitation staff
- Thorough understanding of documentation standards and discharge planning
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and state practice acts
- Ability to develop programs, policies, and clinical education curricula
- Strong communication, coaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
