Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, compassionate care to adult cardiac surgery and critical care patients in the CVICU
• Monitor hemodynamics, manage vasoactive drips, and interpret cardiac rhythms to guide treatment
• Collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and the multidisciplinary team to create and implement patient-focused plans
• Administer medications, manage postoperative care, and perform meticulous documentation
• Promptly recognize and escalate changes in patient condition to ensure timely interventions
• Educate patients and families about care plans and recovery expectations with clarity and empathy
• Participate in unit safety initiatives and quality improvement activities to improve patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (required)
• Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU or adult ICU experience (as indicated in the posting)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) commonly required or strongly preferred
• Critical care certifications such as CCRN are a plus
• Comfort with vasoactive infusions, hemodynamic monitoring, and post-op cardiac care
• Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced critical care environment

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — associate or BSN typical; BSN preferred where applicable

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of cardiac physiology, post-operative care, and ventilator management
• Proficient in cardiac rhythm interpretation and advanced cardiac monitoring
• Skilled at titrating vasoactive drips and managing invasive lines and drains
• Able to prioritize tasks and make rapid, evidence-based clinical decisions
• Teamwork-oriented with strong bedside teaching and patient-education skills
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate clinical documentation
