Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled occupational therapy services under the direction of an OT to help patients regain independence
- Assess patient abilities and develop individualized treatment plans focused on meaningful daily activities
- Lead therapeutic activities and adaptive techniques to improve ADLs, mobility, and cognitive function
- Collaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and optimize patient outcomes
- Document patient progress clearly and timely, ensuring compliance with facility and regulatory standards
- Educate patients and families on home programs and safety to support long-term success
Qualifications
- Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential required
- Current state licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure in South Dakota
- Minimum experience working in post-acute, long-term care, or skilled nursing settings preferred
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Ability to pass background check and meet facility immunization requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills and a team-first attitude
Education
- Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program (Associate degree or OTA diploma)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in ADL training, transfers, and restorative nursing programs
- Proficient documentation and time management to meet productivity and compliance standards
- Knowledge of adaptive equipment and home safety recommendations
- Ability to modify treatment plans based on patient progress and tolerance
- Comfort collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and family caregivers
