Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor progressive care patients, using strong clinical judgment to prioritize care
• Deliver compassionate, patient-centered bedside care and include families in the plan of care
• Perform and troubleshoot IV starts, maintain IV lines and manage medication pumps
• Provide basic wound care and maintain surgical drains with attention to detail
• Provide nasogastric and chest tube care safely and confidently
• Continuously monitor telemetry and recognize changes in cardiac rhythm
• Complete accurate, timely documentation in Meditech and give thorough bedside shift reports
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, float when needed, and support unit staffing needs
• Manage an assigned patient ratio consistent with unit standards while maintaining quality and safety

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state-appropriate) required
• BLS certification required; ACLS required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (Med/Surg and PCU/telemetry experience preferred)
• Proven ability to start IVs and perform basic wound care
• Experience with telemetry and progressive care patient populations
• Comfortable with floating per unit rotation and working in a 3 × 12-hour schedule

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment, prioritization and multitasking skills
• Experience with bedside shift report and developing therapeutic patient relationships
• Familiarity with Meditech electronic documentation
• Comfortable using IV pumps, feeding pumps, PCA devices and continuous pulse oximetry
• Knowledge of EKG machines, SCDs and bladder scanner use
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with techs, unit secretaries and the care team
