Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert respiratory care and evaluation for patients with respiratory insufficiencies, asthma, pneumonia and emphysema
- Manage and troubleshoot mechanical ventilation (Servo I, Hamilton and similar ventilators) to optimize patient outcomes
- Perform ABG analysis and interpret results to guide therapeutic adjustments
- Administer and monitor CPAP, BiPAP, nebulizer therapy and chest physiotherapy (CPT)
- Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies and collaborate with physicians and nursing staff during critical events
- Document assessments, interventions and outcomes thoroughly in the Meditech EMR
- Educate patients and families on respiratory care plans and device use with empathy and clarity
- Contribute to a team-focused environment, participating in shift handoffs and unit initiatives
Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential — required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications — required
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care hospital RRT experience — required
- Trauma experience — preferred
- Meditech EMR experience — preferred
- Strong critical thinking, teamwork and patient-centered communication skills
Knowledge & Skills
- Mechanical ventilation management and ventilator modes
- Arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and interpretation
- CPAP and BiPAP setup and titration
- Nebulizer therapy and airway clearance techniques (CPT)
- Familiarity with ventilator models listed (Servo I, Hamilton, Astral, V60)
- Comfortable documenting in Meditech and collaborating in multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to prioritize high-acuity procedures and maintain composure in fast-paced situations
