Roles & Responsibilities
- Support the pharmacist by preparing and dispensing medications accurately under supervision
- Retrieve, count, label and deliver medications to patient care areas or pharmacy pickup
- Clean, refill and maintain automated dispensing systems such as ScriptPro and Kirby Lester
- Perform inventory control tasks including ordering, receiving, stocking and documentation
- Assist with sterile compounding tasks by restocking and cleaning IV hood and compounding areas
- Monitor refrigerator temperatures, hood pressures and other equipment logs to ensure safety
- Process and file required paperwork for controlled substances and Pyxis refills
- Answer phones, triage refill requests and communicate with patients and providers clearly and courteously
- Assist with unit-specific procedures and quality assurance activities under pharmacist review
- Restock crash carts and maintain clean, organized pharmacy workspaces
Qualifications
- Alaska Pharmacy Technician License required at hire
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) required within one year of hire
- Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency to be completed within 3 months of hire
- 1-2 years of customer service experience; healthcare or pharmacy experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations and basic math accurately
- Experience with sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling is a plus
- Strong verbal communication skills for patient interactions and phone triage
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and respond promptly in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiarity with drug names, strengths and generic equivalents
- Understanding of pharmacy law and proper controlled substances handling
- Experience with pharmacy computer systems and automated dispensing equipment
- Hands-on knowledge of ScriptPro, Kirby Lester and Pyxis workflows
- Inventory management and recordkeeping best practices
- Customer service skills for working the pharmacy window and phone triage
- Attention to detail for labeling, filling and documentation tasks
