Roles & Responsibilities

• Set up the operating room and verify all necessary equipment and instrumentation are available and functioning
• Perform sterile technique and aseptic preparation for surgical cases
• Assist with patient positioning, surgical prepping and draping to ensure safety and optimal access
• Handle and pass surgical instruments and supplies efficiently during procedures
• Support a wide range of surgical specialties including general, orthopedics, ENT, ophthalmology, OB/GYN, podiatry and urology
• Provide safe care for both adult and pediatric patients in ambulatory and inpatient settings
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergent surgical needs as required
• Maintain accurate documentation and follow facility policies for patient safety and infection control

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved Surgical Technologist training program (AST) or equivalent clinical/military on-the-job training
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (maintain throughout employment)
• Certification or documentation of one of the following: NBSTSA (3-year), CST, NCCT (3-year) or TS-C; NBSTSA certification must be achieved within employer timelines where applicable
• Willingness to participate in rotational scheduling and on-call coverage (nights, weekends, holidays)
• Demonstrated experience with OR instrumentation, patient preparation, and operating room setup preferred
• Strong teamwork, communication, and attention to sterile technique

Education

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (AST) or equivalent clinical training
• Or documented military surgical technologist training or supervised on-the-job training

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in sterile and aseptic technique and OR instrumentation handling
• Knowledge of patient positioning, surgical prepping and draping standards
• Familiarity with ambulatory/outpatient surgical workflows and perioperative safety protocols
• Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues and ensure instruments are functioning
• Comfortable working across multiple surgical specialties and with both adult and pediatric patients
• Solid teamwork skills and ability to communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses and perioperative staff
