Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform respiratory therapeutic procedures and pulmonary diagnostic testing safely and accurately
- Assess patients’ respiratory status and develop individualized care plans
- Implement treatment plans, including ventilator management and airway support, following provider orders
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses clearly and timely
- Provide patient and family education on respiratory care, equipment, and disease management
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and transitions of care
- Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, ensuring infection control and safety standards
- Serve as Lead RCP when assigned — coordinate the section or department during your shift
- Participate in competency testing and continuing education to maintain clinical excellence
Qualifications
- Current State Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from NBRC required or to be obtained within three months of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA or ARC required and must be maintained
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from AHA or ARC required and must be maintained
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from AHA required upon hire or obtained within 60 days
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificate preferred
- Two years of acute care experience preferred
- Strong documentation skills and familiarity with pulmonary diagnostic procedures
Education
- Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred)
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Respiratory Therapy or related field (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in respiratory therapeutic procedures and pulmonary diagnostics
- Excellent patient assessment and critical thinking skills
- Skilled in care planning, treatment implementation, and clinical documentation
- Competent in life support protocols: BLS, ACLS, PALS
- Experience with ventilator management and airway support
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
- Leadership capability to function as Lead RCP when assigned
- Comfort with competency testing and skills checklists
