Roles & Responsibilities
- Obtain 12‑lead EKGs and perform timely phlebotomy to support rapid diagnosis and treatment
- Assist clinicians with procedures—suture/immobilization support, splinting, reductions, and airway assistance
- Provide compassionate care across the lifespan (neonate through older adult), including feeding and ambulation assistance
- Manage behavioral emergencies safely and support application of restraints when needed according to policy
- Follow strict infection control practices, including donning/removing PPE and isolation precautions
- Accurately label and transport specimens and document care in Epic
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition and abnormal/normal vital signs to the care team
- Support post‑mortem care respectfully and professionally when required
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners (Respiratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Phlebotomy) to keep patient flow moving
Qualifications
- Current BLS certification (required)
- Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ER) experience (required)
- Experience in a Trauma Level II environment (required)
- Familiarity with Epic charting (required)
- Comfortable working in a rural or community hospital setting (preferred)
- Competence with core ER procedures and equipment: 12‑lead ECGs, phlebotomy, glucometer, splinting, suturing, glide scope assist (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong situational awareness in a busy ED with variable daily census
- Ability to recognize and report changes in patient condition quickly
- Knowledge of infection control practices and PPE protocols
- Skill with age-specific competencies from neonate through older adult
- Proficient with basic emergency equipment and specimen handling
- Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with nurses, physicians and support services
