Shift Type: 3x12-hour nights per week, 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM (Night); schedule per unit needs; every third weekend required

Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage advanced airway and ventilatory support for neonates and pediatric patients, including intubation assist, extubation, and tracheostomy care
- Operate, troubleshoot and wean a variety of ventilators (Servo-I/Servo-N, Hamilton T1, HFO/oscillators) to optimize respiratory outcomes
- Provide high-acuity respiratory care across NICU, PICU, Pediatric ED and pediatric floors — your expertise will directly impact critically ill infants and children
- Perform and interpret ABGs and use findings to guide ventilator adjustments and therapies
- Administer nebulized and inhaled medications safely using Alaris pumps, Aerogen/Hope/EZflow systems, and other delivery devices
- Lead and participate in neonatal/pediatric transports and assist in high-risk deliveries when needed
- Document care accurately in EPIC and use unit systems (Pyxis) to support safe medication and supply management
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and engage families to provide compassionate, family-centered respiratory care
Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required
- Active North Carolina state respiratory licensure (NC State License)
- Minimum 5 years of pediatric/NICU/PICU respiratory experience required; NICU & PICU experience is mandatory
- BLS, NRP and PALS certifications required
- Experience charting in EPIC and familiarity with Pyxis
- Travel experience preferred; first-time travelers considered only with a very high-level, accurate skillset
- Ability to complete 36 hours of unit orientation and float across pediatric units
Knowledge & Skills
- Airway management (ET tube suctioning, nasal/oral airway placement, intubation assist, extubation)
- Mechanical ventilation: BiPAP, CPAP, IMV/SIMV, high frequency/oscillating ventilators, pressure/volume ventilators
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), Bubble CPAP and BCPAP interfaces
- ABG interpretation and arterial/umbilical/capillary blood gas sampling
- Neonatal and pediatric assessment and pulmonary hygiene (vest/chest physiotherapy)
- Medication administration and nebulizer/device setup (Albuterol, INo, racemic epi, Tobramycin, Xopenex, MDIs)
- Familiarity with specialty equipment (Alaris pumps, Hamilton T1, Airvo, Metaneb, Smart Vest, Heliox, AMBU bronchs)
- Competent with unit systems and documentation: EPIC and Pyxis
