Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical ventilation and provide advanced ventilatory support for critically ill patients
• Perform airway management including intubation support, tracheostomy care and suctioning
• Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and make timely respiratory interventions
• Administer respiratory medications and manage nebulizers, HFNC, BiPAP and CPAP therapies
• Troubleshoot ventilator alarms and lead weaning efforts from mechanical ventilation
• Document care accurately and efficiently in EPIC to ensure continuity and safety
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses and the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement care plans
• Provide patient and family education on respiratory therapies and recovery goals

Qualifications

• Current NC respiratory license required
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials required; CRT not accepted
• BLS, ACLS and PALS required; NRP preferred
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience (ER, Adult ICU, Med/Surg, ICU/Stepdown)
• EPIC charting experience is required
• Comfortable working night shifts and participating in on-call duties as needed
• Able to work within a fast-paced respiratory care department with varied acuity

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of ventilator management (BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, weaning protocols)
• Skilled in airway management, suctioning and tracheostomy care
• Proficient in ABG interpretation and respiratory diagnostics
• Experience with advanced therapies: vest therapy, MetaNeb, PAP therapy and heated high-flow
• Familiarity with unit ventilators such as Servo I/Servo U, Hamilton T1, V30; Avea preferred
• Medication administration for respiratory agents and inhaled therapies
• Comfortable using EPIC for charting and communication
