Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform ROSE for Thyroid fine needle aspirations and assist with EBUS and EUS procedures to enable rapid, accurate diagnostics
• Prepare smears, perform staining, and ensure correct specimen labeling and handling for reliable laboratory results
• Provide clear preliminary diagnoses and document findings thoroughly in EPIC to support pathologists and clinical teams
• Collaborate with surgeons, clinicians and lab staff in both inpatient and outpatient settings and support OR procedures as needed
• Maintain high standards for specimen collection, identification and processing to support patient safety and quality care
• Participate in unit orientation and follow facility policies including vaccination and infection control guidelines

Qualifications

• ASCP-CT certification required
• California Cytotechnologist license required and must be in hand at time of submittal
• Minimum 3 years of cytotechnology experience required; 5 years preferred
• Demonstrated experience with ROSE for Thyroid FNAs, EBUS and EUS
• Proven skills in smear preparation, staining, specimen labeling/identification and preliminary diagnosis
• Familiarity with EPIC documentation and both inpatient and outpatient lab workflows
• Able to work Monday through Friday day shift and remain on-site rarely if procedures are delayed
• COVID-19 vaccine required (medical or religious exemptions only); flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only)

Knowledge & Skills

• EPIC charting and thorough documentation practices
• Smear preparation, staining techniques and specimen handling best practices
• Experience in OR settings and on-site procedural assistance
• Ultrasound-guided specimen collection familiarity
• Preferred experience with ThinPrep, GMS and PAP testing
• Strong attention to detail, communication and teamwork in a diagnostic lab environment
