Roles & Responsibilities
- Room patients efficiently and compassionately for 1-2 providers, maintaining flow for ~15 patients per provider
- Obtain and record vital signs including height/weight, pulse oximetry, and manual blood pressures
- Prepare charts and document history, medications, and allergies in EPIC to ensure providers have what they need
- Collect and label specimens such as urine clean catch and perform urine dipstick/urinalysis accurately
- Support specialty clinics (urology, nephrology, endocrine, orthopedics, general surgery) and assist with procedures as needed
- Stock supplies, schedule appointments, and complete follow up phone calls to keep the clinic running smoothly
- Perform insurance verification, pharmacy refill calls, and basic telephone triage when requested
- Float between clinic locations within scope to meet patient care needs when necessary
Qualifications
- MA-C certification required; MA-R and pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum BLS certification required at time of offer
- At least 6 months of experience as an MA in a pediatric outpatient clinic is preferred (first-timers accepted)
- Proven experience charting in EPIC is required
- Reliable personal transportation required due to occasional floating between clinics
- Ability to work with multiple pediatric specialties and adapt to changing clinic assignments
- Strong communication skills for patient interactions and follow up phone calls
Education
- Medical Assistant certification (MA-C) required
- High school diploma or GED preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency with EPIC charting and electronic documentation
- Vital signs collection including pulse oximetry and manual blood pressure technique
- Specimen collection: urine clean catch and urinalysis processes
- Rooming patients, preparing charts, and supporting provider exams
- Scheduling appointments, stocking supplies, and basic office administration
- Familiarity with pediatric patient populations: infants, children, adolescents
- Comfort assisting with basic procedures such as nebulizer treatments and casting (preferred)
- Telephone triage, insurance verification, and pharmacy refill coordination
