Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, evidence-based critical care for adult and geriatric MICU patients, including those with ARDS, sepsis, and oncologic emergencies
• Manage mechanical ventilation and ventilator weaning, including interpretation of arterial blood gases and ventilator adjustments
• Perform and maintain invasive monitoring: arterial lines, pulmonary artery catheters, and cardiac monitoring
• Deliver renal support therapies including CRRT and manage patients with chronic/acute renal failure
• Start and maintain IV access, administer blood products, and titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips safely
• Monitor and respond to dysrhythmias, lead emergency responses, and participate in rapid response teams
• Care for patients with complex devices and procedures (chest tubes, central/PICC lines, EVD when applicable)
• Use EPIC for comprehensive charting and documentation, ensuring accuracy and continuity of care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (respiratory therapy, pharmacy, PT, radiology, social work) to coordinate complex care plans

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years critical care/MICU experience (must meet experience requirements within the last 3 years; at least 1 year of current specialty experience for clinical pass)
• Travel/contract experience required; no first-time travelers accepted for this role
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required; NIHSS (NIH) required
• Proven experience with ventilator management and IV starts
• EPIC charting experience required
• Comfort managing a 1:2 patient ratio in a high-acuity environment
• Ability to safely titrate vasoactive drips, manage continuous IV sedation, and perform procedural sedation monitoring
• Familiarity with CRRT and NxStage machines is strongly preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation and ventilator management
• Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation (arterial lines, PA catheters)
• CRRT (including NxStage) and renal failure management
• ABG interpretation and respiratory support: HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP
• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• IV therapy, IV starts, central/PICC line care, and blood product administration
• Infection prevention, isolation precautions, and PPE best practices
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical records and Alaris IV pumps
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, interdisciplinary teams
