Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub for complex cardiovascular and thoracic procedures, maintaining impeccable aseptic technique
• Assist the surgical team during CABG, EVAR, TEVAR, valve replacements and other CVOR cases
• Perform instrument processing and reprocessing for cardiovascular/thoracic sets with attention to detail
• Document equipment and case information accurately and chart in EPIC
• Serve as a reliable team member in Level I trauma situations, responding calmly under pressure
• Manage crash cart readiness and support intraoperative emergency protocols
• Collaborate with circulating staff to ensure efficient case flow and patient safety

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 5 years total CST experience (HARD STOP)
• At least 2 years dedicated cardiac and vascular experience
• Minimum 1 year CVOR experience
• Minimum 1 year experience in a Level I Trauma facility
• Familiarity with EPIC or similar charting systems
• Ability to scrub and circulate, document equipment, and follow universal protocol/time-out procedures

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong mastery of aseptic technique and sterile field management
• Experience with cardiovascular/thoracic instrument reprocessing and scope care
• Comfort with crash cart management and intraoperative emergency processes
• Proficiency assisting with CABG, EVAR, TEVAR, valve replacements, TAVR and VAD cases
• Familiarity with robotic cardiothoracic procedures and transplant cases is a plus
• Excellent equipment documentation skills and familiarity with cell saver and electrosurgical units
• Ability to work effectively in high-acuity CVOR, trauma and hybrid OR settings
