Shift Type: Rotating shifts (Day/Night): 12-hour core shifts 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, plus additional shift options 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM; schedule rotates with every-other-weekend and every-other-holiday, self-scheduling based on seniority (union environment)
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $58 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on psychiatric nursing care for adolescents and adults on a locked inpatient unit
- Perform consistent 15-minute rounds and actively participate in patient treatment and safety plans
- Use de-escalation techniques and seclusion/restraint protocols when clinically necessary and appropriate
- Collaborate closely with mental health techs, social workers and occupational therapy to deliver coordinated care
- Assist with admissions, assessments and ongoing monitoring for psychiatric diagnoses including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis and substance-related conditions
- Contribute to a safe unit environment by responding to emergency buttons and coordinating with hospital security and rapid response teams
- Float throughout the hospital as needed for helping hands or 1:1 assignments
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- Minimum 2 years acute/inpatient nursing experience, psychiatric experience preferred
- BLS certification required
- CPI preferred (certification in safe patient handling/de-escalation is a plus)
- Comfortable with EPIC charting and documentation
- Comfortable working on a locked unit and with occasional mechanical restraint or seclusion when indicated
- Willingness to float and work within a union scheduling structure
- Candidates must not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with facilities associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity)
Education
- Active RN license required
- BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid psychiatric nursing practices and crisis management
- Strong verbal communication and therapeutic de-escalation skills
- Familiarity with seclusion and restraint policies and safe implementation
- Ability to work with adolescents and adults, with adolescent experience preferred
- Basic familiarity with CPAP/BiPAP and oxygen support protocols (RT available)
- Team collaboration with mental health techs, occupational therapy and social work
- Comfort with a high-engagement bedside role and frequent patient interaction
