Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with professionalism and care
- Perform interview-based clinical evaluations and collect relevant history to inform objective findings
- Complete focused physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing
- Prepare clear, timely medical documentation and reports, including addendums and medical opinions
- Review and interpret diagnostics as needed to support exam findings
- Follow non-treatment exam protocols and maintain strict independence and confidentiality
- Complete required onboarding and training to ensure compliance with VES practices
Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted medical license in the state(s) of practice (MD or DO preferred)
- Board certification or clinical background in family medicine, internal medicine, general medicine, or orthopedic surgery preferred
- Experience with Compensation & Pension exams or similar medico-legal/non-treatment evaluations is a strong plus
- Comfort performing interview-based exams and basic physical assessments (range of motion, muscle strength)
- Able to commit to PRN/per diem coverage and be within a 50-mile radius of the assignment city (or have a qualifying office)
- Willingness to complete required trainings and onboarding prior to first assignment
Education
- MD or DO (or equivalent medical degree) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient interviewing skills for gathering medical, occupational, and functional histories
- Competence in basic musculoskeletal exam techniques including range of motion and strength testing
- Strong clinical documentation and medical-legal writing skills
- Ability to interpret diagnostic reports relevant to the exam
- Attention to detail, timeliness in reporting, and ability to follow standardized exam protocols
- Comfort working independently and communicating professionally with case coordinators
