Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations and Separation Health Assessments with professionalism and sensitivity
- Conduct thorough medical interviews to capture service-connected health histories
- Perform focused physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing when required
- Complete clear, timely clinical documentation and reports following VES practice guidelines
- Prepare addendums and medical opinions as needed to support Veteran claims
- Follow non-treatment exam protocols — no prescribing or treatment responsibilities
- Complete required VES portal training and maintain documentation for credentialing
Qualifications
- Active medical degree (MD or DO) and valid state medical license
- Specialty in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or equivalent general medicine experience
- Experience or willingness to perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments
- Ability to work PRN, perform half-day (4-hour) or full-day (8-hour) sessions, and complete required administrative follow-up
- Providers using their own office must have an office within a 50-mile radius of the listed city
- Willingness to complete VES-required training and onboarding prior to patient presentations
Education
- MD or DO (Medical degree required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong medical interviewing and documentation skills
- Competence in range of motion testing and muscle strength evaluation
- Familiarity with reading diagnostics and creating concise medical opinions
- Comfort completing addendums and timely administrative follow-up
- Ability to work independently and manage PRN schedules
- Detail-oriented approach to non-treatment exams and medicolegal documentation
