Shift Type: 4-5 days per week, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Day shift); clinic-focused schedule with 6 patient-contact hours/day; On-call coverage required (schedule TBD); includes telehealth and occasional outreach to Newton (~6 days/month)

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality inpatient and outpatient hematology/oncology care at MercyOne Des Moines and MercyOne West Des Moines
• Manage and oversee chemotherapy treatment plans and medication safety
• Perform thorough patient assessments and create individualized treatment and follow-up plans
• Deliver telehealth visits when appropriate to expand access to care
• Participate in outreach clinics (including periodic coverage in Newton) to support regional patients
• Respond to on-call duties and coordinate urgent inpatient needs across both sites
• Document clinical care accurately and efficiently in EPIC
• Collaborate with nursing, pharmacy, imaging and lab teams to ensure seamless patient care
• Provide palliative and pain management in coordination with existing radiation and surgical oncology providers

Qualifications

• MD or DO required
• Board certified or board eligible in Hematology/Oncology
• Active Iowa medical license or eligibility to obtain licensure in Iowa
• Experience managing chemotherapy and complex oncology patients
• Comfortable with inpatient responsibilities and outpatient clinic workflow
• Proficiency with EPIC or similar EMR systems
• BLS and ACLS certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care

Education

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
• Completed residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology/Oncology

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical expertise in hematology and medical oncology
• Chemotherapy regimen selection, administration oversight, and toxicity management
• EPIC documentation and electronic order entry
• Inpatient hospital care and care coordination
• Telehealth delivery best practices
• Palliative care principles and pain management strategies
• Familiarity with medical imaging, lab interpretation, and pharmacy collaboration
• Outreach clinic logistics and community-facing care
