Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with care and accuracy
- Conduct interview-based medical exams and focused physical assessments (range of motion and muscle strength testing)
- Complete thorough, timely medical documentation and reports following each evaluation
- Follow VES protocols for one-time non-treatment exams—no prescribing or ongoing treatment
- Coordinate with the VES team to complete required administrative follow-up (addendums, medical opinions, diagnostic review)
- Complete required onboarding and training promptly to begin patient evaluations
- Treat Veterans with professionalism, respect, and clear communication throughout the exam process
Qualifications
- Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) license or appropriate clinician license in good standing
- Clinical background in general medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, or orthopedic surgery (VES welcomes these specialties)
- Experience or comfort conducting interview-based exams and basic physical assessments (range of motion, muscle strength)
- Ability to complete thorough medical documentation and submit timely reports
- Willingness to complete required VES training and onboarding before performing exams
- For per diem roles: ability to work within a 50-mile radius of your home address; for own-office roles: office must be within 50 miles of the listed city
Knowledge & Skills
- Compensation & Pension (C&P) exam procedures and requirements
- Separation health assessment processes
- Interview-based clinical assessment techniques
- Range of motion testing and muscle strength testing
- Clear, concise medical documentation and report writing
- Familiarity with non-treatment exam workflows and VA-related documentation is a plus
