Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform one-time, non-treatment Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams to evaluate Veteran health for benefits
• Conduct Separation Health Assessments and thorough interview-based examinations with compassion and clarity
• Perform focused physical assessments such as range of motion testing and muscle strength testing
• Document findings accurately and submit timely reports, including any required addendums or medical opinions
• Read diagnostic reports and integrate findings into exam conclusions
• Follow VES practice guidelines and complete required portal training and onboarding tasks
• Work collaboratively with VES staff and local teams to ensure efficient Veteran care and exam completion

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted state medical license (MD or DO) in the state(s) you will serve
• Board certification or practice background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine experience
• Experience with Compensation & Pension exams or similar medico-legal/functional assessments preferred
• Comfort performing interview-based exams and non-prescribing physical assessments (ROM, muscle strength)
• Ability to complete documentation, addendums, and medical opinions in a timely manner
• Willingness to work PRN/per diem and be available within a 50-mile radius of assigned location or have an eligible office for seeing Veterans
• Completion of required VES portal training and credentialing prior to patient encounters (DMA certification noted as beneficial)

Education

• Medical degree (MD or DO) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in conducting interview-driven clinical evaluations and producing clear, defensible reports
• Proficient in range of motion and muscle strength testing techniques
• Ability to interpret diagnostic results and incorporate them into exam conclusions
• Strong documentation skills and attention to medico-legal detail
• Familiarity with credentialing processes, portal systems, and clinical addendums
• Excellent communication skills with Veterans and clinical teams
