Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with care and professionalism
- Conduct thorough interview-based evaluations and targeted physical assessments (range of motion, muscle strength)
- Use a goniometer and perform METs testing as required for functional assessments
- Review medical records and integrate findings into standardized DBQs/forms
- Complete and submit DBQs and standardized reports in the VES provider portal (Reach360) within 48 hours of exam
- Adhere to non-treatment scope: evaluate and diagnose without prescribing or providing treatment
- Participate in required training, PEP/check-in sessions, and optional QA reviews to maintain high-quality reporting
- Travel to assist other areas when requested and document per VES guidelines
Qualifications
- Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) certification/license in good standing
- Clinical experience in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine background preferred
- Experience or familiarity with Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams is a strong plus
- Comfortable performing musculoskeletal assessments, METs testing, and using a goniometer
- Able to evaluate respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological conditions, and diabetes-related issues
- Proficient with clinical documentation and willing to learn standardized DBQs/reporting workflow
- Own a personal laptop (NO MACs) for portal work and training access
- Willingness to travel when requested and ability to complete onboarding/credentialing paperwork promptly
Education
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) — appropriate advanced practice degree/certification and state licensure
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in clinical assessment, focused physical examination, and patient interview–based exams
- Proficient in range of motion and muscle strength testing techniques
- Familiarity with DBQs (Disability Benefits Questionnaires) and standardized documentation
- Comfortable with electronic provider portals (VES / Reach360) and timely electronic submission
- Capable of concise, form-based reporting rather than narrative reports
- Strong record-review skills to support exam findings and opinions
- Ability to evaluate and provide medical opinions related to musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and diabetes conditions
