Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct one-time, non-treatment Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams with professionalism and care
- Perform separation health assessments and interview-based clinical evaluations
- Execute focused physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing
- Document clinical findings clearly and submit timely exam reports
- Complete required follow-up administrative work such as addendums, medical opinions, and diagnostic review
- Follow client-specific practice descriptions and compliance requirements during each evaluation
- Participate in required training and onboarding to maintain readiness for assignments
Qualifications
- Active Nurse Practitioner license in the state(s) where you will practice (able to work within a 50-mile radius of assignment)
- Experience or comfort with interview-based clinical assessments; prior C&P or separation assessment experience is a strong plus
- Clinical background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine welcomed
- Strong medical record documentation skills and ability to produce clear, timely reports
- Comfort performing range of motion and muscle strength testing (training provided if needed)
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally as assignments require
- Willingness to complete required training and credentialing prior to first assignment
Education
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) as applicable to an NP role
- NP national certification in an appropriate specialty (family, adult-gerontology, or similar) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Interview-based clinical assessment techniques and interviewing skills
- Physical examination skills focused on musculoskeletal assessment, range of motion, and strength testing
- Accurate medical record documentation and clinical reporting
- Ability to prepare addendums and medical opinions when needed
- Familiarity reading and incorporating diagnostic information into assessments
- Strong communication skills with Veterans and administrative teams
- Time management to complete exams and required follow-up work within allotted windows
