Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, skilled nursing care during night shifts to patients in need
- Perform timely assessments, implement care plans, and monitor patient status throughout the shift
- Administer medications and treatments accurately while following facility protocols
- Document patient care and observations clearly in the EMR for safe handoffs
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care
- Demonstrate infection control practices and participate in required testing and screenings
- Complete Trinity specialty competency testing and skills checklists as part of ongoing quality assurance
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license (Iowa preferred/required for practice in-state)
- BLS certification (required)
- NIHSS certification (listed as required)
- Ability to obtain EMR access and complete facility fingerprinting
- Willingness to complete Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Trinity Skills Checklist
- Successful completion of required health screenings: drug screen, fit test, immunizations (COVID-19, MMR, Hep B, influenza, Varicella, Tdap) and TB testing (2-step PPD or IGRA)
- Available to work night shifts and adapt to typical nocturnal workflow
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing (LPN/LVN) program
- Active state LPN licensure required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient with electronic medical records (EMR) documentation and access
- Strong patient assessment and observation skills during overnight hours
- Solid medication administration and basic nursing procedures
- Familiarity with NIHSS stroke assessment
- Good communication skills for handoffs and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Ability to prioritize, triage, and respond calmly in urgent situations
