Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide full-scope cardiopulmonary services to patients of all ages with compassion and professionalism
- Perform ventilator operation and management, including setup, monitoring, and adjustments
- Assist with intubation and provide airway management during procedures and emergencies
- Obtain and analyze arterial blood gases (ABGs) and document findings accurately
- Deliver chest physiotherapy, patient suctioning, and oxygen therapy safely and effectively
- Conduct pulmonary function testing (PFTs) and operate related diagnostic equipment
- Educate patients and families on respiratory treatments, device use, and home care plans
- Accurately document therapies, contribute to procedure manual updates, and collaborate with the care team
Qualifications
- Graduate of an AMA-accredited Respiratory Therapy program with an AS degree or equivalent
- Active NBRC credentials (CRTT, CRT, RT, or RRT) as listed in the job description
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience treating hospital patients
- BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS encouraged
- Proven ability to read and interpret physician orders, technical manuals, and departmental policies
- Strong clinical reasoning, documentation skills, and the ability to work with interdisciplinary teams
Education
- Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent from an AMA-accredited program
Knowledge & Skills
- Ventilator management and operation for adult, pediatric, and infant patients
- Airway management including intubation assist and CPR
- Arterial blood gas procurement and ABG analysis (including familiarity with point-of-care devices)
- Pulmonary function testing (PFT) and operation of pulmonary diagnostic equipment
- Experience with pulse oximetry, suction equipment, nebulizers, and supplemental O2 delivery
- Comfort with EKG, Holter/event monitors, treadmill/stress testing equipment
- Strong patient education, documentation, and communication skills, including working with interpreters when needed
