Roles & Responsibilities

• Protect patients, visitors, and staff by maintaining a visible, professional presence throughout the facility
• Patrol assigned areas and monitor entrances to ensure a secure hospital environment
• Respond quickly and calmly to incidents, using de-escalation techniques to defuse situations safely
• Collaborate with clinical teams and emergency responders to support patient safety during events
• Document incidents and maintain accurate logs and reports to support follow-up and compliance
• Assist with access control and visitor screening while upholding patient confidentiality and respect
• Conduct safety rounds, identify potential hazards, and communicate findings to leadership

Qualifications

• De-escalation training — required and expected to be current
• Experience in unarmed security, ideally in a hospital or healthcare setting — required
• Ability to work nights and participate in an every-other-weekend rotation — required
• Comfort with following hospital policies, HIPAA/privacy expectations, and chain-of-command reporting
• Ability to pass background check and meet client onboarding requirements
• CPR/First Aid certification and healthcare security-specific training — preferred but not mandatory

Education

• High school diploma or GED preferred; additional security-related training or certifications a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong observational skills and attention to detail for safety rounds and monitoring
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients and staff
• Proven de-escalation and conflict-resolution techniques
• Professional judgment and the ability to remain calm under pressure
• Basic report writing and documentation skills
• Teamwork and the ability to collaborate with clinical and administrative staff
• Understanding of hospital safety protocols and emergency response procedures
