Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by selecting and arranging instruments, equipment, and supplies
- Maintain sterile technique and ensure a safe, efficient sterile field throughout procedures
- Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons promptly and anticipate needs during cases
- Assist with instrument counts and documentation to support patient safety
- Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers to ensure smooth case flow
- Clean, decontaminate, and prepare instruments and equipment after procedures
- Communicate clearly and professionally with the OR team and support staff
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent training
- Certification as a CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) preferred or willingness to obtain certification
- Current basic life support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain
- Prior operating room or surgical tech experience preferred; new grads who have completed clinical rotations are encouraged to apply
- Strong attention to detail, reliable work ethic, and ability to work well in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Ability to pass facility background checks and meet credentialing requirements
Education
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (or equivalent certificate/diploma)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique and infection control principles
- Familiarity with common surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies
- Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and respond quickly
- Good documentation and counting skills for instruments and specimens
- Effective communication and teamwork in the operating room
- Basic troubleshooting for OR equipment and ability to follow established protocols
