Roles & Responsibilities
- Evaluate residents' communication and swallowing abilities using evidence-based assessments
- Develop individualized treatment plans that target functional goals and meaningful progress
- Provide skilled therapy interventions for dysphagia, language, cognition, and voice disorders
- Collaborate with nursing, therapy, and family members to ensure coordinated care and smooth transitions
- Document progress clearly and timely in the facility’s medical record system
- Train and educate staff and families on carryover strategies and safe swallowing techniques
- Monitor outcomes and adjust plans to maximize residents’ independence and quality of life
Qualifications
- Active or eligible for Texas Speech-Language Pathologist license
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (required)
- ASHA CCC-SLP preferred but not strictly required
- Experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, or rehab settings preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Strong documentation skills and comfort using electronic health records

- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
Knowledge & Skills
- Assessment and treatment of dysphagia and safe swallowing management
- Therapy for language, cognition, articulation, and voice disorders
- Skilled clinical reasoning with functional, person-centered goals
- Good interpersonal and team communication skills
- Familiarity with common assessment tools and progress measurement
- Ability to educate staff and caregivers with patience and clarity
