Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate labor and delivery nursing care for mothers during labor and birth
- Assess and care for well babies and perform newborn assessments with attention to safety and bonding
- Manage postpartum care for new mothers, monitoring recovery and education needs
- Document patient care accurately and efficiently in Allscripts
- Collaborate closely with OB physicians and the CNM to ensure coordinated, high-quality care
- Prioritize and manage care across a busy unit (45–65 births/month) while maintaining patient safety
- Participate in unit protocols, escalate when appropriate, and coordinate with OR teams as needed
Qualifications
- Active RN license (able to practice in Texas)
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (OB/Labor & Delivery experience preferred)
- Current BLS and NRP certifications (required)
- Comfortable with well-baby care, postpartum moms, and L&D responsibilities
- Familiarity with Allscripts or other electronic charting systems
- Willingness to complete the 12-hour orientation and work night shifts
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma (BSN not required)
- Active RN licensure in Texas
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of Labor & Delivery procedures and postpartum care
- Neonatal care and well-baby assessment skills
- Proficient charting and documentation practices in Allscripts
- Excellent communication and teamwork with physicians, CNM, and OR staff
- Ability to prioritize in a busy unit handling dozens of births per month
- Comfort working night shifts and adapting to rotating schedules
