Roles & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the health care team to deliver safe, evidence-based labor and delivery care
• Promote continuity of care by effectively communicating with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members
• Direct and guide support staff in the provision of high-quality patient care
• Perform thorough patient assessments and apply clinical judgment to create individualized care plans
• Provide hands-on clinical nursing care across age-specific populations served in the unit
• Document care clearly and maintain continuity through effective handoffs and communication
• Use critical thinking to respond to changing patient conditions and escalate appropriately
• Model empathetic listening, compassion, and patient-centered advocacy in all interactions

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the State of Iowa, in good standing
• Graduate of an accredited RN program (BSN preferred)
• Current American Heart Association BLS required
• Current ACLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications (new hires should follow education policy timelines)
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Demonstrated critical thinking and technical nursing judgment
• Comfort working nights and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team

Education

• Graduate of an accredited RN program
• BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor and Delivery nursing expertise and patient assessment skills
• Clinical nursing care grounded in evidence-based practice
• Promoting continuity of care across shifts and care settings
• Experience with age-specific population care as relevant to L&D
• Strong interpersonal communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
• Empathetic listening, tact, and patient- and family-centered support
• Basic computer proficiency for documentation and charting
