Roles & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to deliver evidence-based labor and delivery care
• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing during labor, delivery and immediate postpartum
• Direct and supervise support staff to ensure safe, timely, and efficient patient care
• Perform thorough assessments and apply critical thinking for clinical decision-making with minimal supervision
• Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients, families and team members to promote continuity of care
• Document care accurately using basic computer systems and hospital charting tools
• Promote best practices in maternal-infant safety, including stabilization and newborn care protocols

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure in the State of Iowa (required) and in good standing with the Board of Nursing
• Graduate of an accredited RN program (BSN preferred)
• Current American Heart Association BLS required (new hires must certify within 3 months)
• Current ACLS, NRP and STABLE certifications (obtain per facility education guidelines if not already held)
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
• Demonstrated empathetic listening and strong verbal communication skills
• Comfort working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Basic computer literacy for electronic charting and communication

Education

• Graduate of an accredited RN program required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient care with an emphasis on maternal and newborn safety
• Evidence-based practice and application of clinical protocols
• Critical thinking and sound nursing judgment in acute situations
• Interdisciplinary communication to coordinate seamless care
• Directing and delegating tasks to support staff effectively
• Empathetic listening, tact and kindness in patient and family interactions
• Proficiency with basic computer systems used for documentation
