Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform skilled evaluations to assess speech, language, cognition, and swallowing function
• Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that help patients meet meaningful goals
• Provide direct, hands-on therapy using best practices for dysphagia, aphasia, cognitive-communication, and more
• Collaborate closely with nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and family members to coordinate care
• Document progress and outcomes clearly and efficiently in the facility EHR to support continuity and compliance
• Educate patients and caregivers with practical strategies and home programs that enable real-world progress
• Participate in discharge planning and recommendations to ensure safe transitions

Qualifications

• Valid North Carolina SLP license or eligibility to obtain state licensure
• ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred or actively pursuing
• Current BLS/CPR certification as required by facility policies
• Clinical experience evaluating and treating adult and/or pediatric communication and swallowing disorders preferred
• Strong clinical judgment, documentation skills, and ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
• Professional attitude, reliable communication skills, and commitment to patient-centered care

Education

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in speech, language, cognition, and dysphagia assessment and intervention
• Experience with AAC strategies and compensatory techniques
• Knowledge of best-practice treatment approaches for aphasia, dysarthria, TBI, and related diagnoses
• Proficient documentation and outcome measurement in electronic health record systems
• Excellent interpersonal skills for patient and family education and team collaboration
• Ability to adapt therapy to varied settings and caseloads with creativity and clinical reasoning
