Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform skilled evaluations to assess speech, language, cognition, and swallowing function
- Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that help patients meet meaningful goals
- Provide direct, hands-on therapy using best practices for dysphagia, aphasia, cognitive-communication, and more
- Collaborate closely with nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and family members to coordinate care
- Document progress and outcomes clearly and efficiently in the facility EHR to support continuity and compliance
- Educate patients and caregivers with practical strategies and home programs that enable real-world progress
- Participate in discharge planning and recommendations to ensure safe transitions
Qualifications
- Valid North Carolina SLP license or eligibility to obtain state licensure
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred or actively pursuing
- Current BLS/CPR certification as required by facility policies
- Clinical experience evaluating and treating adult and/or pediatric communication and swallowing disorders preferred
- Strong clinical judgment, documentation skills, and ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
- Professional attitude, reliable communication skills, and commitment to patient-centered care
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in speech, language, cognition, and dysphagia assessment and intervention
- Experience with AAC strategies and compensatory techniques
- Knowledge of best-practice treatment approaches for aphasia, dysarthria, TBI, and related diagnoses
- Proficient documentation and outcome measurement in electronic health record systems
- Excellent interpersonal skills for patient and family education and team collaboration
- Ability to adapt therapy to varied settings and caseloads with creativity and clinical reasoning
