Roles & Responsibilities
- Operate CT scanners and power injectors to produce high-quality cross-sectional diagnostic images
- Position patients accurately and safely, following age-specific guidelines and anatomy-based protocols
- Acquire and post-process images, adjust protocols as needed to meet individual patient needs
- Perform general radiography (X-ray) exams when required to support department operations
- Critique and evaluate image quality, maintain repeat rates at or below national standards
- Obtain comprehensive patient histories and communicate pertinent information to the radiologist
- Independently assist radiologists during invasive procedures such as biopsies and drainages
- Communicate clearly with patients about procedures and manage delays with empathy and professionalism
- Participate in technologist-level research and stay current with new procedures and imaging techniques
Qualifications
- ARRT registration — required
- Advanced registry in Computed Tomography (CT) — required
- Two-year allied health degree (associate degree) — required
- Minimum 2 years of current, full-time experience in both CT and X-ray within a hospital / Emergency Department setting — required
- Demonstrated ability to assist during invasive procedures and to adjust imaging protocols appropriately
- Strong patient communication skills and commitment to patient identification and safety
Education
- Two-year allied health degree (Associate degree in Radiologic Technology or related allied health field) — required
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise with Computed Tomography (CT) equipment and CT scanner operation
- Proficient in General Radiography (X-ray) techniques and patient positioning
- Image acquisition, image post-processing, and protocol adjustment/optimization
- Familiarity with diagnostic imaging terminology and front desk/file room procedures
- Ability to evaluate technical image quality, archive and retrieve imaging data
- Comfortable taking patient histories and conveying critical information to radiologists
- Experience with power injector operation and assisting during invasive imaging procedures
