Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor cardiovascular patients using sound clinical judgment to identify and respond to changing conditions
- Provide focused post-op open-heart care for 18–24 hour post-op patients to promote safe recovery and discharge
- Perform and interpret EKGs and collaborate with the team on interventions such as PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip, and pacemaker management
- Manage care for patients with congestive heart failure and support electrophysiology studies and procedures
- Participate in clinical trials per unit protocols, working with the research team to ensure accurate data collection and patient safety
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver patient-centered education and care plans
- Document care thoroughly and adhere to unit policies (including attendance expectations) to maintain a high standard of safety and quality
Qualifications
- Active Michigan RN license required (LARA & Nursys verification will be requested)
- ACLS certification required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1+ year of experience in cardiac/cardiovascular nursing
- Comfortable with EKG monitoring and cardiac assessments
- Willingness to float to similar units as needed
- Completion of a skills checklist within one year of application (required for RN specialties)
- Note: Full-time McLaren employees are not eligible for contract hire within six months of employment
Education
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — Michigan (LARA & Nursys verification required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Cardiovascular nursing fundamentals and advanced cardiac care
- EKG interpretation and continuous cardiac monitoring
- Clinical judgment and acute care decision-making
- Post-op open-heart care and familiarity with cardiac surgical pathways
- Experience or comfort with electrophysiology and congestive heart failure management
- Knowledge of cardiac catheterization / interventional cardiology processes
- Familiarity with clinical trials processes on CVU and research collaboration
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment
