Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert assessment and evidence-based lactation care for inpatient and outpatient patients
• Develop interdisciplinary care plans for patients with advanced lactation needs and communicate goals clearly to the care team
• Deliver prenatal and postpartum lactation education, consultations, and teaching to families and staff
• Lead and mentor staff on best practices in breastfeeding support and lactation management
• Document care thoroughly and maintain required certifications and profile documents for credentialing
• Coordinate timely follow-up and referrals to ensure continuity of lactation care across settings
• Ensure compliance with facility policies and state licensing requirements

Qualifications

• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) — minimum 1+ years in role (required)
• Minimum 2500 hours as a breastfeeding consultant (required)
• Active Massachusetts professional license (RN, OT, PT, SLP, or Pharmacist) — all candidates must be MA-licensed
• Active American Heart Association BLS (required)
• Experience with inpatient lactation programs and outpatient prenatal/postpartum education (required)
• Meditech Expanse experience strongly preferred
• Certification documents, supervisory reference (within past 2 years), and work history must be included at profile upload

Education

• Professional degree or license appropriate to discipline (RN, OT, PT, SLP, or Pharmacist)
• IBCLC board certification (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Lactation management and breastfeeding consultation expertise
• Patient and family education with strong teaching and counseling skills
• Interdisciplinary care planning and collaboration with RN/OT/PT/SLP/Pharmacy teams
• Familiarity with Meditech Expanse or other electronic health record systems
• Excellent communication, documentation, and clinical decision-making
• Ability to work independently and lead lactation initiatives in both clinic and hospital settings
