Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for nuclear medicine studies and explain procedures clearly and compassionately
- Perform high-quality diagnostic nuclear medicine scans in accordance with protocols and standards
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and document according to policy
- Operate and maintain equipment such as gamma cameras and dose calibrators, and troubleshoot issues
- Monitor radiation safety procedures and use appropriate protective equipment
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and ready for patient care
- Communicate findings and coordinate with radiologists and physicians as needed
- Participate in teaching and instructional activities to support staff and trainees
- Provide patient care across the lifespan, responding appropriately to developmental and clinical needs
Qualifications
- Current Hawaii Nuclear Medicine Technologist license (required)
- Current BLS/HCP certification (required)
- Minimum of 1 year of Nuclear Medicine experience preferred (new graduates welcome)
- Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear medicine physics and radiopharmaceutical administration
- Familiarity with gamma camera operation, dose calibrators, survey meters, well counters, and thyroid uptake probes
- Strong communication and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to meet physical demands (standing/walking, lifting/carrying up to ~30 lbs, pushing/pulling up to ~50 lbs)
Education
- Current Hawaii Nuclear Medicine Technologist license
- BLS/HCP certification
- Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technologist program (preferred or typical background)
Knowledge & Skills
- Radiopharmaceutical administration and radiation safety practices
- Nuclear medicine physics and imaging principles
- Patient preparation and compassionate patient interaction
- Gamma camera and dose calibrator operation
- Use of survey meters, well counters, and thyroid uptake probes
- Equipment troubleshooting and routine maintenance
- Clear communication with radiologists, physicians, and the care team
- Teaching and instructional abilities to mentor staff or learners
